Carnoustie Gala day was revived
by the Community Council in 1987 and the Gala Committee formed in 1989.
From a modest beginning, Gala Week is now a huge undertaking organised by
a small band of dedicated volunteers- The Gala Committee, arguably one of
the hardest working organisations in the town of Carnoustie.
Numerous fund raising activities throughout the year allow the Committee to
make donations to various clubs, organisations, good causes and more.
The scope of fund raising activities range from dances, quiz nights, Gala
Quest, sunflower competition, putting, darts, dominoes, folk night, GALA DAY
PARADE and many more.
The committee is also responsible for funding and organising the ever popular Torchlight Parade held on Guy Fawkes Night in November. This year ( 2010 ) we had 450 Torch Bearers and approx 1200 people of all ages starting the parade with many more joining in en route. The Parade starts at Woodlands Primary School and travels through the streets of Carnoustie and culminates at Links Parade to join the mass crowds awaitng the Bonfire and the Fireworks Display funded and organised by the local Coastguards.
Gala Week sees the Committee
at its busiest as they organise putting, quiz, dance,Quest,Folk night and Pub
Crawl and preparing Carnoustie Park for Gala Day.
Gala Day is the busiest day of all in the Gala Year calander. This is when
we have the Parade of Floats led by Pipe Bands which is well worth seeing
as the people of Carnoustie decorate all manner of transport based on a common
theme and they themselves dress-up accordingly. The Parade travels along Carnoustie's
High Street and then terminates in Carnoustie Park where they are judged.
Gala Day is also the day when stalls, competitions etc are to be seen at Carnoustie
Park. entry to Carnoustie Park on Gala Day is free. Stall holders pay a fee
to enter.
The Gala Committee are also involved in preparing the Gala Programme that
has details of all the events and is free.
The Committee is also involved all year round with organising various events
.
This is just a brief itinerary of the Carnoustie Gala Committee as the work
continues all year round.
Indeed a very hard working team.
Please support them whenever you can.
